Smash Court Tennis 3 goes PSP; includes Game Sharing

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

IPB Image

Namco Bandai just announced Smash Court Tennis 3 for the PSP. It'll feature 16 tennis stars, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Justine Henin. "We are thrilled to announce that the next iteration of our popular Smash Court Tennis series is set to appear on the PSP system," said Makoto Iwai, Executive Vice President and COO of Namco Bandai Games. "With the franchise's signature gameplay and new enhancements, Smash Court Tennis 3 is the perfect on-the-go package that's made for a jet-setting tennis pro."

Virtua Tennis will be the game to beat for Namco's next. However, there's one feature that I'm particularly psyched about: the ability to compete against other PSP owners with a single UMD through Game Sharing. It's a horribly under-utilized system: being able to play tennis against any other PSP owner should offer a great deal of potential.

New scan for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

IPB Image

I found a new scan for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII that will make you a bit happy. I really can't translate what's on the page, but it is obvious that the the scan, courtesy of magazine Shonen Jump, focuses on Zack and Angeal.

You might already be familiar with Zack as he was discussed by Square Enix because of the game's combat system DIGITAL Mind Wave. Angeal, on the other hand, is the shadowy one as he is a newly introduced character during the time of the Crisis Core events.

It is curious to know if Angeal's wings has a relationship of some sorts with Sephiroth and Genesis. Each of the two bears, as you all know, one black wing. Sephiroth has one on his right while Genesis has another on his left.

Crisis Core will be released in Japan sometime this spring. We pray and hope that Square Enix hears the pleas of all the fans from other countries to release this game worldwide.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd breaks 750k mark in Japan

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Just a quick update to how Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd is doing over in Japan. While it’s no suprise that the game broke the 500,000 mark on its first day, fans of the franchise can take great pride in knowing that not only is the game still topping sales charts in Japan in its first week, but is now running strong at a staggering 755,000 copies sold.

VGcharts - see the disparity for the #1 slot? - Image 1

As for the other contenders in VGchart’s top ten, we have Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri for the PS2 coming in at second, with with Fire Emblem for the Wii is also enjoying its first week at #3 with a healthy 74,000 sales. As expected, top Japan picks like Dragon Quest Monsters Joker and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl are holding fast to numbers 7 and 8 respectively, although the fact that Monster Hunter is already nearing the one-million mark is sure to grab anybody’s attention - double that it’s a PSP title fighting in DS country.

Let’s see how the game will also do in the charts once it gets released in North America (under the name Monster Hunter Freedom 2) come September 2007. Stay tuned for more news on Monster Hunter Portable 2nd.

PSPSIM: A SamCoupe Emulator for PSP v1.0.4

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

PSPSIM - Image 1Homebrew coder Zx-81 has just updated the PSPSIM homebrew, which is now running at version 1.0.4. This application is an emulator for games built to run on the SAM Coupe - an 8-bit Z80-based home computer system originally developed by Miles Gordon Technology back in 1989. And much like the updates for PSPYape, PSP7800, and PSPMSX, this emulator now uses the PSP GPU for rendering - full explanations on what it does below:

  • New graphical functions with new smoother render modes. It uses the PSP GPU for rendering, it does not run faster, but it’s a lot smoother.
  • Multiple keyboard mapping feature (Thanks to Pou-chan)
  • Bug fix in Rom file request.
  • Add help menu

Do remember to view the README - it contains the application’s installation instructions, along with other important notes like how to load games. Also make sure to visit Zx-81’s spot at the forums to get a full 411 on what else he’s working on. Enjoy the download!
