Jump Luigi v1.0: Super Mario Bros-based side-scrolling platformer

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

A new homebrew platformer game going by the title “Jump Luigi v1.0″ was recently spotted on the QJ.NET PSP Development forum. Developed by dan369, the game features the titular green-suited plumber in an amusing remix of the Super Mario Bros. series.

This initial release of the Lua-based homebrew title takes you on a side-scrolling quest to collect coins across the familiar backdrop of the Mushroom Kingdom. One of the more interesting aspects of the game includes a screenshot feature which you can take anytime during your coin-collecting adventure.

While Jump Luigi still lacks enemies to make it a bit more challenging, the developer mentioned that it will be one of the many things to be added in future updates of the game. Other plans to be implemented include additional levels and an option to choose which character you want to go through the game as (Mario, Wario, etc.).

You can also discuss Jump Luigi v1.0 with the developer by visiting the PSP Development forum, accessible through the link below. Anyway, we hope you enjoy this newly released homebrew game, so keep checking back with us for more updates on the homebrew scene.

Multi Cementerio - installs older CFWs for homebrew app testing

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Sony PlayStation Portable handheld - Image 1Ever since Dark_AleX released a DDC version that installs custom firmware 3.90 M33-3, there hasn’t been a lot of support for applications which can run on 3.80 and other older CFWs.

Fortunately, developer Ky Kiske released a new homebrew app that allows you to freely switch across any of the older firmware and test different applications on them. Entitled “Multi Cementerio”, it also allows users to disable flash formatting and keep the same configuration and registry from the previously installed CFW.

Here’s a list of features that Multi Cementerio comes packed with:

  • Ability for installing the official firmwares 3.93, 3.90 and 3.80.
  • Ability for installing the custom firmwares 3.90 M33-3 and 3.80 M33-5.
  • Ability to disable flash1 formatting (by default it formats), by pressing R before starting the installation. The helpful thing about this is that you won’t lose your configuration and registry.
  • It informs you of how many percent of battery you have left, and you will be warned if less then 5 is left.
  • A file existence and checksum check was added before it starts formatting the flashes (in the original DDC, it formatted, then checked existance).

Please note that this program is only handy for developers who need to test their applications on older firmwares, so take care when installing this on your handheld. Also, before installing this make sure to make a NAND dump with the original DDC version 4 or version 5 first for safety reasons.

For additional details on how to install Multi Cementerio on your handheld, check out the Readme.txt file included in the file bundle which you can download through the link below.

TetriAbetes Mod v0.1

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

TetriAbetes Mod v.1 - Image 1Homebrew developer C0_ol dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and released version 0.1 of his mod for TetriAbetes.

The game originally belongs to dragula96 and is currently on version 1.43. Just like its name implies, TetriAbetes is the homebrew scene’s own rendition of the classic game of Tetris.

Coder C0_ol forget to mention which exact version he modified so we are quite uncertain as to the facts behind this. He did say, however, that he was able to mod all the images especially the ones named PIC1.png and ICON0.png.

Note as well that the modified version doesn’t come with a Readme.txt file so just be sure that you know what you are doing. Lastly, C0_ol is asking for feedback regarding TetriAbetes Mod v0.1 which you can give via the comment section or the forum link we provided below.

ESRB launches widget for searching game ratings

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

ESRB launches Widget for searching game ratings - Image 1 Conscious about a game’s content? Then Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) with Clearspring Technologies’ latest piece of work could help you. They have developed a nifty little widget that could help consumers search through games according to their rating.

That’s right, folks. ESRB’s widget allows people to go through more than 14,000 games that have been rated and indexed by the company. All you have to do is put in a name of a game that you’re curious about, then the widget will be providing the respective rating.

Aside from this, this particular technology can be customized through inputting color codes. It can definitely please those people who are picky.

Regarding the launch of this widget, ESRB president Patrica Vance said:

Our single most important message to consumers, particularly to parents, is that they should always check a game’s ESRB rating when considering a purchase or rental for their children.

Parents are hungry for this information, and research shows that three-quarters of parents regularly check ESRB ratings when making purchase or rental decisions about which games to bring home. Our ratings search widget makes checking the rating that much more convenient. We’re very excited to be offering this widget with the help of Clearspring.
