AFKIM: Instant Messenger for PSP v3.3.5

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

AFKIM: Instant Messenger for PSP v3.3.5 - Image 1Developer Zx-81 visited the QJ.NET Forums earlier to announce that Danzel has released AFKIM v3.3.5 for the PlayStation Portable. AFKIM, in case you’re asking, is actually short for Away From the Keyboard Instant Messenger.

This new build is specifically for the guys who’ve just updated to Team M33’s custom firmware 4.01 and are using PSP Slims. Version 3.3.5 addresses a bug which prevented AFKIM from displaying its text properly. Those using an older version than CFW 4.01 or a PSP Fat won’t need to download this update.

Full details on installing and running this application on your PSP are available in the file bundle’s readme. You may also want to visit ZX-81’s Homebrew Releases forum in case you’re interested in leaving your feedback.

FANG v0.1.1 and No Bull Moose v0.2.4

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

FANG v0.1.1 and No Bull Moose v0.2.4 - Image 1Developer Archaemic visited the QJ.NET Forum recently to announce the release of FANG v0.1.1 and No Bull Moose (NBM) v0.2.4. For the guys who weren’t around during the previous release, No Bull Moose is actually a JPEG image converter for PC, built specifically to complement the PSPComic homebrew application. FANG is a GUI built to help make NBM easier to use.

NBM version 0.2.4 should address a problem that was reported with  nbm.exe, though the dev reports not personally experiencing the bug. FANG v0.1.1 carries a bugfix for the progress bar/reporting of errors, with this download being built specifically for Windows users. Quoting the readme for the rest of the details:

  • NBM v 0.2.4:
    • [Bugfix] Windows only: jpegtran detection should no longer crash application
    • [Bugfix] Windows only: Workaround for Windows stupidity with quote handling
  • Fang v0.1.1
    • [Bugfix] Windows only: filenames with backslashes (i.e., all filenames) should now always work
    • [Bugfix] The program will now catch errors from the backend better
    • 64-bit Linux support dropped. If you want to use FANG on a 64-bit Linux installation, you’ll have to compile it yourself

In related news, Archaemic is announcing that PSPComic v1.1 is nearing completion, although adding translations to the app is slowing development down. There is a chance that the dev may drop the official translation for the project so far (except for Canadian French) just to speed up the progress.

Anyway, full details on installing and using both programs for your respective OS are available in the file bundle’s readmes. Those who want to send their feedback to the dev may want to visit the release thread at the QJ.NET PSP Development Forum.

fMSX v3.5.35: an MSX emulator for the PSP

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

PSP - Image 1Homebrew developer uberjack has updated fMSX to version 3.5.35. For those who aren’t too familiar with this program, it is essentially an MSX emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable.

According to the release post, this version of the application is essentially a bug-fix release. Here’s a quick look at all the improvements over the previous version as taken from the homebrew’s official website:

  • Bugfix - many games, especially MegaROM games did not load correctly in the previous version (thanks Victor)
  • Added Fast Forward button mapping - while disabled by default, you can map any button to fast-forward emulation in the Controls menu
  • Custom mapper types can now be embedded in source code. This version includes built-in support for Zanac Ex and Mon Mon Monster. Contact me if you’d like to add additional mappings

Like all homebrew, be sure to go over the documentation to avoid any problems with the program.

Sleep’n'Wake v1.99b MULTi8 - updated CFW compatibility

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Sleep'n'Wake MK2k - Image 1

It’s been almost a year since we last heard from MK2k’s Sleep’n'Wake homebrewed application for the PSP. If you haven’t heard of it yet, Sleep’n'Wake is just the application that you need if you need something other than a straightforward alarm clock program to wake you up.

This program actually helps in lulling you to sleep by playing your music of choice at low volume, and wake you up by playing another playlist at full volume at a predetermined time. Yes, it’s better than your standard alarm clock in more ways than one, and we’re glad that MK2k finally decided to release a version of Sleep’n'Wake that is compatible with CFWs 3.xx and 4.xx.

Here’s the direct quote from the homebrew developer concerning the update:

The current version 1.99b adds compatibility to Custom Firmware 3.xx and 4.xx by utilizing Mr305’s OpenAlarmLib as well as fixes a bug in snooze mode for AM/PM time users.

Aside from the updated CFW compatibility and the above-mentioned bugfix, there are no other new additions to this already-useful application.

Installation procedures are noted in the accompanying readme file, which users should go over first before using of updating Sleep’n'Wake. The readme file is available in both Deutsch and English.
