The IdolMaster SP scan - Image 1

Namco Bandai’s new music game for the PSP, The Idolmaster SP, officially receives a launch date. Yes folks, no longer shall it be tagged with the non-committal TBA.

The upcoming issue of Weekly Famitsu has a scan which declares that a date’s been set for the hit title and it’s for January 22nd of next year in Japan. The scan also reveals more new information on the multiplayer mode of the game. We’re guessing it’s gonna be a very happy new year for IdolMaster fans, and most especially Namco Bandai.

In the meantime, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information, so just keep it posted here.

Sony Korea to release DJ Max new PSP-3000 bundle.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

DJ Max Portable - Image 1Sony Computer Entertainment Korea’s (SCEK) webpage shows that they have a plan for the PSP-3000, and it’s gonna bring you a bundle of joy — quite literally.

Looks like the company has teamed up with local developer Pentavision to have the Pearl White PSP-3005 packaged together with the DJ Max Portabole Clazziquai Edition. Also included in the bundle are selected albums speakers for 278, 000 won (US 235).

But of course it’s all about choices, so they’re also releasing an alternative bundle which includes a PSP-3005, a DMB tuner (a device used for mobile TV), and speakers also for 270, 000 won. There’s no official word yet, but it seems like the said DMB tuner will be the same as the one released in Japan.

If you’re outside Korea, though, do not lose hope. It doesn’t seem too far off that they’ll be bringing it to other territories, like Europe, since countries there are already testing the DMB service out. However, and unfortunately, the US of A won’t be getting it for sure, since our mobile TV format here is different.

In case you get confused, the PSP-3005 mentioned in this article is the same model as the PSP-3000 announced for Japan. The only difference is i n the last digit, because 5 signifies the Region Number of Korea, hence PSP-3005. But other than that technical difference, it’s still the Slim & Lite with Built-in microphone and brighter screen PSP.

OpenSource PSP file browser for devs: ExploreMe

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Explore Me - Image 1

Well, this is actually more for PSP homebrew developers than for the mainstream users. See, most of the time, devs would have to create their own file browsers for their various PSP brew projects. And knowing this, maxthebest (famous for his Protect Me and Cypher Me homebrew apps) decided to release his own ExploreMe source code in hopes that it may also prove useful for someone else out there. In his words:

…for any non developer, this is kind of a useless stuff, because if you run the eboot which is in the zip, you’ll have a very nice file browser, but which won’t do anything when you select a fle…

So, if you do are a dev, just modify it a little, just adding the action you want to apply to the file selected, or modify it a lot, just remember to release it under gpl too, and to quote the author (myself)

Here’s a list of features of ExploreMe, as described by maxthebest:

  • It has different themes you can change into the option menu
  • The display is made in a “rotating way”, dunno if it means what I mean, but that’s basically the same idea as Art used in his xflash (but coded from scratch). So, I like it
  • Other small stuff you’ll discover.

The download archive contains a readme file for more information.

Undead Knights revealed for PSP release

Tecmo Unveils Undead Knights coming to PSP from Famitsu - Image 1

Undead Knights. If only for the title alone, I am interested in this game. According to this week’s Famitsu mag, Tecmo is working on this new zombie-themed game, which is scheduled for a release in Japan next year on the PSP.

Not much details on the game yet, but judging from the screenshots posted in the mag, it’s going to be pretty interesting. The game will be a survival-horror title, which will have you fighting hordes of zombies. A good zombie game always has hordes of zombies. Also, the game will have 4-player ad hoc.

I guess there’s no chance of getting a chainsaw in a knight-themed game is there. Tsk. Hopefully this is a sign that third-party devs are getting more interested in the PSP.

Sony job listing hints at LittleBigPlanet for PSP UPDATE Rumor no longer: talks on PSP version in progress

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Sony job listing hints at LittleBigPlanet for PSP - Image 1A new job listing on the SCEE website says that they’re looking for a new PSP game engine lead to work on the development of LittleBigPlanetprojects.

If you remember, a rumor popped up a few months ago saying that Sony Studio Liverpool is working on the PSP version of the game. So are the sackboys going portable?

Assuming we take this job listing point blank, and say there is a LittleBigPlanet project coming for the PSP, what can we expect? An entirely new creation game based on the PS3 version perhaps (downsized for the PSP of course), or some extension of the PS3 game for the PSP?

All speculation for now, but any iteration of the game on the PSP sounds good to me.

UPDATE

>It’s a rumor no longer! Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healy reveals that there are indeed talks of a PSP version for LittleBigPlanet, but nothing is concrete at the moment.

He does say how he imagines how LittleBigPlanet would appear on the PSP, saying that it would be a companion product that will “allow you to create things while you’re on the train.” He adds:

One thing that I’d love to add is the ability to create you’re own music, for example, that you can import into the game. That seems like an obvious one to do and it’d be quite easy really.

If the PSP version will indeed pull through, it sounds like it’ll be a fine companion product for the game.

Disaster Report 3 heading to PSP

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Looks like Famitsu jumped the gun on Sony’s PSP lineup for TGS. While everyone is waiting for the TGS event to confirm that one unannounced game by Irem for the PSP, scans of the recent Famitsu issue reveal Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3, the third installment in Irem’s survival action game series.

Some of you will remember this better as Disaster Report (first installment) and Raw Danger (second installment) on the PS2. European gamers would know it collectively as the SOS: The Final Escape series.

Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 is now headed for Sony’s handheld with the first couple of details revealed in the scan:

  • The game takes place in Central Island
  • Naoki Kosaka and Saki Honjo will try to survive in the city
  • Stress plays an important role in the concept of the game, bar health decrease depending on the status anxiety of the character
  • An ad-hoc option for 4-player multiplay is planned
