Just in case parents don’t understand what “Adults Only, 18 ” means, the ESRB has helpfully decided to add “ratings summaries” to the existing ratings system.
According to the ESRB, their research shows that parents do regularly check a game’s rating before buying it for their children.
Despite this, many under-aged gamers are still getting their hands on games better left for older, less impressionable minds. Naturally, the ESRB concludes that parents just don’t quite understand exactly what the ratings mean.
To remedy this, “new rating summaries, which provide exclusive and unprecedented insight into the nature of the content that triggered a given rating assignment,” will be added in addition to the existing ratings info. The summaries will be searchable via their website.
If you detect an undertone of sarcasm in this article, I do apologize. It’s easy for me to criticize the ESRB for a making a plan that will obviously not prevent parents from spoiling their kids rotten. Irresponsible parents will still be irresponsible parents and I suppose there’s really not much else the ESRB can do about that. At least this way, people will have one less excuse when their kids steal a car GTA-style.
With the Christmas season around the corner and game sales expected to skyrocket, I guess every little bit helps.
PS. No, I’d rather not get into the argument on whether or not violent games will cause little kids to rampage the streets, guns blazing. If you must know, I’m actually in the “that’s hogwash” camp, but I also recognize that I’m no psychologist, hence I tend to listen to the game’s rating on the box unless I know better.

The numbers in Japan for the month of October are now in from Famitsu. Data shows strong sales of the PSP-3000, which was released during the month, boosting overall PSP sales.
The industry as a whole seems to be suffering in the region though; the data says that sales keep falling since last year. Compared to the same period from last year, hardware sales declined 29.1 .
No shocker there - almost everyone there probably has a console by now. Software sales are falling as well, 14.9 less than last year. Small wonder, since the region’s leading console is the Wii, and Nintendo’s been pretty quiet for the platform lately. Here are the hardware sales numbers for the month of October:
Note that the Xbox 360 beat the PlayStation 3 by a small margin, but looking at the region’s all in all gamerbase, the PlayStation 3 has 1 of the market, while the Xbox 360 doesn’t even blip on the radar. The DS continues to be the most widespread console commanding 42.6 of the market, followed by the PS2. The PSP and the Wii tie with 16 each.

There’s no exchange for the love of a fanboy. This news just made my day. I am stoked. Stoked!
The Red Eagle Entertainment film studio is starting up a new video game publishing studio called Red Eagle Games, specifically to make games based on Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series.
The news just keeps getting better. They’re also planning to release the games to coincide with the release of Wheel of Time movies. The first movie, based on “The Eye of the World” is already in the works. It was leaked that Universal Pictures will be making the movie. They plan to make at least three, depending on how well the first one does in the box office.
>They plan to release the games on all major platforms, even PCs, handhelds, and mobiles. Red Eagle is also planning to make an MMO as well.
Games based on other media tend to be on the sucky side, so I’m worried they might muck it up, especially if they plan to do it with a start-up company. But still. Stoked!

Initially released back in September, an anonymous Japanese homebrew developer’s ScreenShotPNG Speedy Plugin is back with an update. This powerful plugin gives screenshot access to Game, VSH, and POPS.
So what’s new with v0.20, aside from a couple of tweaks and fixes? Apparently, the v0.11 which we missed already introduced 5.00 M33 support! Here’s the full changelog history (translated) from the initial v0.10 release:
The readme file included is in Japanese as well, so you want to run it through a translator.

Finally, Cloud Strife and Sephiroth make it to the magazines! Shonen Jump has published their Dissidia: Final Fantasy feature, putting the FF7 characters in the limelight.
For some reason, I’m actually happy they kept Cloud in his original FF7 characterization - not his Advent Children version. See that sword he’s wielding in the screenshot? It’s the Buster Sword! How awesome is that?! (Now here’s hoping we also get Omnislash as an ability!)
Also note the background of the screen. It seems that the FF7 stage in Dissidia involves the Lifestream - I wonder which specific area though.
Another interesting thing is that screenshot with Sephiroth: notice those strange mathematical markings - do they look familiar? Hah! One-winged angel Sephy gets to use his Supernova ability in Dissidia!
Knowing that we’re going to have the original FF7 version of Cloud and Sephiroth (and not their spin-offs), then this probably gives you an idea of the specific conflict they’ll be bringing to Dissidia. It will probably involve the whole memory loss and puppetry thing going on, and none of the “I miss my flower girl and I’m tainted, bu hu huh” Geostigma conflict from Advent Children.
Coupled with today’s Cloud-Sephiroth scan, we have some more which outlines pretty much everything that were already revealed in a previous article. It’s Terra and Kefka, and a whole slew of gameplay details.

Stopping by for an update in the QJ.NET forums is Killzone_Kid. He’s updated his PSP Radio application with two new changes: firstly, a screenshot function has been added, and secondly, there’s been some slight improvement to the shoutcast search ultility.
Here’s KK himself talking about screenshot support in PSP Radio:
To take a screenshot, click on -Take Screenshot- in Menu under Sleep Timer. This will activate screen capture. To capture, press and hold R shoulder button and then Start button (Start button is also used to deactivate screen capture). After screenshot is taken it is saved in PICTURE/RADIOPLAYER SCREENSHOT directory in .bmp format and could be viewed from XMB in the Photo menu.
Since this app works via Wi-Fi, the update can be downloaded via the source link below. You’ll have to access it directly from your PSP unit’s Internet browser though.
Remember, Killzone_Kid is very open to suggestions for future changes, so if you have the time, check out the forums and drop a message!
